There are a whole range of creative roles within our Arts organisations in Cumbria. Whether you’d like to work within one of our many theatres, heritage attractions or planning cultural events, there are always roles available for those interested in the creative industry.

Spas are big business within Cumbria and we have so many high end spas that have created lots of fantastic roles. If you’re thinking of studying beauty at college it’s worth looking at which companies you’d be interested in working for and approaching them to see if they are looking for trainees.

A hugely important role within our sector, some would argue the most important. Those who work Front of House are key to visitors getting a great first impression. This role really epitomises the phrase ‘no two days are the same’, your main priority in this role is to ensure that the customer has a great visitor experience.

Another key role in our sector. Our reputation is everything to us so our housekeepers are fundamental in ensuring not only that everything is looking sparkling at the businesses but also, operationally functioning. This is an area of shortage currently and pay for housekeepers has significantly increased too.

If you’re interested in food, nutrition and think you could have a flair for cooking, it’s worth looking at apprenticeships with our local colleges. Businesses are looking for chefs at all levels and are happy to put people through their qualifications. Commis chefs can earn around £24-£25K per year, moving up to Head Chefs who can look to bring in £35-£45k.

There is a vast array of managerial positions on offer in Cumbria. Whether you’re looking to train and take your first steps into management, looking for a departmental, supervisory role or work your way up to general managerial level, the opportunities here are endless.

Outdoor roles play a huge part in maintaining and conserving the natural landscapes of Cumbria, additionally adding valuable experiences for visitors. You could be an outdoor activity industructor, mountain leader, ranger, grounds person, even a hot tub technician! If you enjoy the outdoors and beautiful landscapes, this could be the career path for you.
